About Facial & Dental Trauma
Facial and dental injuries, no matter how big or small, can be devastating to a patient both physically and emotionally. Our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Bartlomiej Nierzwicki, is known for his calm bedside manner when faced with high pressure and emotional surgeries of the face and teeth. Dr. Nierzwicki and his staff are highly trained in emergency care, acute treatment, and long-term facial and dental reconstruction and rehabilitation. It is important to have a surgeon who is not only concerned with the aesthetic elements, but more importantly, knows how to restore long-term function of the teeth and jaw. At Millennium Surgical, in Chicago, IL, we will accommodate your schedule to set up a facial and dental reconstruction consultation with Dr. Nierzwicki.
Areas of Reconstruction
Soft Tissue Injuries
Dr. Nierzwicki can repair lacerations to the soft tissues of the face with suturing, allowing for a repair that is aesthetically pleasing. He will also treat damaged facial nerves, salivary glands, or salivary ducts.
Broken or fractured bones in the face require treatment that is determined by where it is located, the age of the patient, severity of the damage, and health of the patient. Dr. Nierzwicki will discuss all of the options of treatment for bone injuries with patients. Stabilizing the area will be at the center of the treatment, which can include wiring the jaw together, or surgical placement of small plates and screws (which is called rigid fixation) at the site of the fracture.
When teeth are fractured or knocked out, an oral surgeon is usually called in to surgical replant the teeth, stabilize the affected teeth with wiring, or bond the teeth together. Patients may require a root canal therapy, and have restorative dental work done to recreate the fractured teeth for chewing function and facial aesthetics. Dr. Nierzwicki is trained to complete all aspects of dental injuries.

Even though I went extremely nervous and not knowing what to expect, Dr. Bart and the staff made this process go smoothly as possible. They thoroughly explained their plan and procedure with professionalism and friendliness which made me 100% comfortable going in. During the Procedure
As facial and dental injuries vary widely from patient to patient, every case is different and must be treated uniquely. When faced with this type of situation, we will discuss what kind of procedure, type of anesthesia, length of hospital stay, or number of surgeries may be needed to correct the damage before commencing treatment.
Again, we want to reiterate that many of our patients, of all ages, can become very emotional in regards to injuries of the teeth and face from motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, accidental slips and falls, violence, or injuries that happen on the job. Our staff is trained in handling these high pressure, acute situations and are certified in modern IV sedation and anesthesia techniques to add peace of mind.
