About Corrective Jaw Surgery
At Millennium Surgical, our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Bartlomiej Nierzwicki, uses state-of-the-art computer imaging and 3D models to show you exactly how the surgery will be approached when you or your child needs surgery to reposition the jaw. Corrective jaw surgery, or orthognathic surgery, is required when our patient’s top and bottom teeth do not touch in the normal position. An improper bite from genetics or injury can cause many complications, such as difficulty chewing, speech problems, and a distorted facial appearance. You or your child may be referred to Dr. Nierzwicki by your orthodontist, who may have tried rectifying the situation by changing the bite or position of the teeth with little to no success. At our Chicago, IL office, we can provide you with a comprehensive consultation, facial X-rays, and computer video imaging to discuss the orthognathic treatment options. We want to help you understand the surgical process, and at the same time, we can show you how you may look after the surgery. Call today and schedule your appointment.
"Fantastic doctor! I had a molar extracted one week ago. I am a patient who suffers from extreme dental anxiety. I went in for a consultation and Dr. Bart was a Godsend. He explained in detail the procedure, gave me a prescription to help with the dental anxiety and the next day completed the extraction in a matter of minutes with no issues whatsoever. I am so grateful to have used his services. Once I left the consultation, I was actually looking forward to getting the procedure done. He listened to my concerns, addressed them thoroughly with his thoughtful bedside manner. His staff was also exceptional. The facility is clean and modern. I felt no pain or anxiety. If I have any future oral surgery needs, I will never go anywhere else but to Millennium Surgical. A week later, I am healing nicely and have had no pain just the normal discomfort which comes from an extraction. Hands down the best oral surgeon in the area."- V.Y. / Yelp / Jun 07, 2018

"Dr. Nierzwicki and his team were exceptional, professional, and compassionate. I was told about Dr. Nierzwicki from a friend and went for my wisdom teeth extractions. I was called in for the dimensional x-ray and was then taken to the consulting room. My vitals were taken and then I waited for Dr. Nierzwicki to explain my options. He explained the risks of the surgery and provided all the information I needed. I was given the option to remove my wisdom teeth that same day with only local anesthesia, so I went ahead and did it. The staff and Dr. Nierzwicki made me feel very comfortable. I was given instructions on how to take the medications, what to expect, and how to care for my incisions. The surgery only took a few minutes but it went smoothly as Dr. Nierzwicki would walk me through every single step he was doing. This made me feel very comfortable and less anxious. If you need to remove your wisdom teeth or need any dental surgeries, I recommend coming here."- A.S. / Yelp / Mar 07, 2018
Reasons for Treatment
We provide our patients with corrective jaw surgery after a careful evaluation. Candidates for this procedure have difficulty in the following areas:
- Problematic chewing, biting, and swallowing
- Have an open bite (teeth do not touch)
- Breathing problems
- Speech difficulties
- TMJ symptoms and continual jaw pain
- Distended jaw
These symptoms can be caused by a birth defect, a genetic disorder that develops over time, environmental influences, or from a severe injury to the face.
During the Procedure
During your consultation with our oral and maxillofacial surgeon, we will complete a physical examination, discuss your health history, and take x-rays. Together, you and the surgeon will make a plan of action on the type of procedure your jaw requires. This may also include a collaboration with your dentist and orthodontist for optimal results. Each procedure is different as each patient has unique problems with the jaw. As always, we provide our patients with IV sedation and anesthesia for their procedures to keep them comfortable and calm during surgeries.
Corrective jaw surgery can be a very complex surgical process, and our goal is to make sure you understand all of the options and what the benefits are for now and for the future. Orthognathic surgery not only restores the patient’s facial appearance, but also ensures that teeth meet correctly and function properly without pain, swelling, or making unnatural sounds when opening the mouth to talk, eat, or yawn.
