About Corrective Jaw Surgery
At Millennium Surgical, our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Bartlomiej Nierzwicki, uses state-of-the-art computer imaging and 3D models to show you exactly how surgery will be approached when you or your child needs surgery to reposition the jaw. Corrective jaw surgery, or orthognathic surgery, is required when our patient’s top and bottom teeth do not touch in the normal position. Improper bite from genetics or injury can cause many complications, such as difficulty chewing, speech problems, and a distorted facial appearance. You or your child may be referred to Dr. Nierzwicki by your orthodontist, who may have tried rectifying the situation with changing the bite or position of the teeth with little to no success. At our Chicago, IL office, we can provide you with a comprehensive consultation, facial X-rays, and computer video imaging to discuss the orthognathic treatment options. We want to help you understand the surgical process, and at the same time, we can show you how you may look after the surgery. Call today and schedule your appointment.
"Great surgeon and the staff amazing, made me feel very comfortable and answer all my questions, I'll definitely recommend family and friends"- J.M. / Facebook / Sep 17, 2017
"The staff is extremely respectful and knowledgeable. Both the doctor and assistants provided me with information that was easy to understand regarding the procedure. I can not express just how satisfied I am with my experience."- A.R. / Facebook / Sep 12, 2017
"I came to Millenium Surgical to get my wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Nierzwicki was great and made me feel very comfortable being put to sleep with anesthesia. Not only did that, but he took the time to explain all my options and then the entire procedure and answer ALL of my questions before hand. After the procedure, Dr. Nierzwicki called to check up and see how I was feeling. I felt so at ease from start to finish during the entire processes. The entire staff was very kind and helpful, from Kenya to Maggie. Highly recommend!!"- S.S. / Facebook / Sep 07, 2017
"I was referred by a friend to Dr. Cienawa who then referred me to Dr. Bart - the same day - to have my two bottom wisdom teeth removed. As I have never had even a stitch before in my life, I was nervous about being put to sleep, etc. (especially after the horror stories everyone tell you about getting their wisdom teeth removed!). Dr. Bart led the consultation along with Kenia and went over other options where I could stay awake. Honestly, I think that took more time than the... actual extraction itself! The consultation was thorough and helpful, so when I made the decision it was all green lights. I was truly taken care of - and last minute, which I so appreciate, and was able to not be put to sleep, and still be pain free. I appreciate also the woman who walked me through the billing process and (this is on my insurance more than the practice) while it was a hefty upfront cost, I am pleased with the decision I made (they even gave me a shirt!) because I was able to still enjoy my Labor Day weekend up in Michigan! I would highly recommend this place due to the professional demeanor of the office, the staff, and the doctor. Thank you!"- J.W. / Facebook / Sep 05, 2017

Reasons for Treatment
We provide our patients with corrective jaw surgery after a careful evaluation. Candidates for this procedure have difficulty in the following areas:
- Problematic chewing, biting, and swallowing
- Have an open bite (teeth do not touch)
- Breathing problems
- Speech difficulties
- TMJ symptoms and continual jaw pain
- Distended jaw
These symptoms can be caused by a birth defect, a genetic disorder that develops over time, environmental influences, or from a severe injury to the face.
During the Procedure
During your consultation with our oral and maxillofacial surgeon, we will complete a physical examination, discuss your health history, and take x-rays. Together, you and the surgeon will make a plan of action on the type of procedure your jaw requires. This may also include a collaboration with your dentist and orthodontist for optimal results. Each procedure is different as each patient has unique problems with the jaw. As always, we provide our patients with IV sedation and anesthesia for their procedures to keep them comfortable and calm during surgeries.
Corrective jaw surgery can be a very complex surgical process, and our goal is to make sure you understand all of the options and what the benefits are for now and for the future. Orthognathic surgery not only restores the patient’s facial appearance, but also ensures that teeth meet correctly and function properly without pain, swelling, or making unnatural sounds when opening the mouth to talk, eat, or yawn.
