About Gingival Grafting
Gingival grafting, or gum grafting, is a special procedure our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Bartlomiej Nierzwicki, performs for patients who need gum tissue added to their gum line. To improve the appearance of the gums and teeth and to reduce periodontal disease (which can cause the gums to recede even more), Dr. Nierzwicki performs gingival gum grafting in his on-site surgical suite. Some patients are referred to Millennium Surgical to have their "toothy smile" reduced, while others do it to have healthier teeth and gums. If you would like more information about gum grafting, please schedule a consultation at our Chicago, IL office.
"My dentist referred me to Dr. Nierzwicki to get my wisdom teeth removed, the same doctor who removed my brother’s wisdom teeth a couple years ago. My brother told me nothing but great things about Dr. Nierzwicki so I felt at ease going in for my consultation. The office/clinic is nice and clean, all of the staff is very kind, and the doctor himself is wonderful! Everything was explained to me thoroughly so that I knew what was going on with my wisdom teeth, the surgical proce...ss, and the recovery/what to expect afterwards. Dr. Nierzwicki and his staff were more than happy to answer all my questions. I went into surgery without any worries and it went very smooth as expected. Later that day Dr. Nierzwicki called personally just to check up on me, see how I was doing, and answer any questions. I highly recommend Millennium Surgical; Dr. Nierzwicki and his staff are amazing!!!"- M.U. / Facebook / Oct 09, 2018

"Fantastic doctor! I had a molar extracted one week ago. I am a patient who suffers from extreme dental anxiety. I went in for a consultation and Dr. Bart was a Godsend. He explained in detail the procedure, gave me a prescription to help with the dental anxiety and the next day completed the extraction in a matter of minutes with no issues whatsoever. I am so grateful to have used his services. Once I left the consultation, I was actually looking forward to getting the procedure done. He listened to my concerns, addressed them thoroughly with his thoughtful bedside manner. His staff was also exceptional. The facility is clean and modern. I felt no pain or anxiety. If I have any future oral surgery needs, I will never go anywhere else but to Millennium Surgical. A week later, I am healing nicely and have had no pain just the normal discomfort which comes from an extraction. Hands down the best oral surgeon in the area."- V.Y. / Yelp / Jun 07, 2018
Reasons for Treatment
Gingival grafting is a procedure for patients with a receding gum line, where the tops of the teeth are exposed more than normal teeth at the gum line. When the gum line recesses, it opens up the tooth to more cavities, gum disease, and dental issues.
During the Procedure
In our surgical suite, our oral and maxillofacial surgeon will excise a layer of tissue from the palate (top of the mouth), and suture it to the gum line where more soft tissue is needed to protect the teeth or root. The extra tissue will grow into the existing tissue over time and create plumper gums.
After surgery, our staff will give you aftercare instruction on how to care for your gums. Follow a regular brushing and flossing regime, and use an antibacterial mouthwash. If our oral and maxillofacial surgeon has special instructions regarding your care, we will make sure to answer any questions you may have. Keep all follow-up appointments with the surgeon, and continue with your routine dental checkups.
